Some Salty History

Historians don't all agree on the specifics, but legend has it that salt was so valuable in ancient times that it was sometimes used as currency. One popular belief is that Roman soldiers were paid in salt, which some believe (perhaps inaccurately, but let's embrace it for today's inspiration) is where the phrase "worth your salt" comes from. Interestingly, the word "salary" is derived from the Latin word "salarium," referring to the payment given to soldiers, possibly as an allowance for purchasing salt.

Shine your light brightly in your sphere of influence.

A concept I hear a lot from other online business owners, especially those in the infotainment space is to “add value.”

During His famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says it this was. Matthew 5:13-16 (NLT) records, “13  You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.” The scripture goes on to say, 14  “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Salt Adds Value

As leaders and entrepreneurs balancing side hustles with 9-5 jobs, we're called to be the salt of the earth—adding value as creators and cultural architects. Like salt enhances flavors, we bring out the best in our teams and communities, uplifting and preserving what's essential through integrity, kindness, and steadfast hope in the One who called us.

Reflection:

In your family, adding value could mean creating harmony by listening attentively and appreciating different viewpoints. Be the peacemaker, sprinkling understanding and empathy like salt. Encourage and uplift your loved ones, helping them uncover their strengths and potential. Create traditions and special moments that bring everyone closer and spread joy, adding a pinch of happiness to daily life.
