Shine your light brightly in your sphere of influence.

A Personal Story

I remember a time when I would travel frequently when my work life was centered around music. I ended up meeting lost of new people as a result of those travels. At the beginning of the flight, I would engage in small talk with the person next to me. At some point, the discussion would veer into questions like, "Where are you headed?" and "What do you do for work?"

I would then explain that I was a gospel singer, and inevitably, the conversation would delve into a shared love for music or sometimes their life experiences that could use a little faith and hope. Those chance encounters reminded me of why I did what I did.

I could have easily put my headphones on, shut out the world, and taken a nap for the duration of the flight. Instead, I chose to engage, realizing that these conversations were opportunities to be a light, offering encouragement and positivity to someone who might need it.

Scripture of the Week

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT)

Reflection:

Sometimes, it's as simple as being present and open to connecting with others, offering a listening ear, and sharing a bit of hope and inspiration. These small acts can have a significant impact, reaffirming the importance of letting our light shine in all our interactions.

Questions:

  1. What are practical ways you can be a light in your daily interactions?

  2. In what areas of your life can you shine more brightly?
