Keeping the main thing the main thing...

Keeping the main thing the main thing...

This Monday, I want to focus on an idea we've discussed before: simply put, keeping the main thing the main thing.

Since our last interaction, I had an experience that reinforced the origin of this newsletter. From Wednesday to Friday, I finally managed to catch up on some much-needed rest.

It was a revelation. I had been pushing myself relentlessly, and by midweek, I hit a wall. The fatigue was so intense that I found myself needing to sleep as soon as I put my daughter to bed.

Clarity of thought

Once I caught up on my rest, something happened. I regained clarity of thought, and my priorities became clear. This reminded me of why I started this newsletter.

When I started Remarkable Monday, the core idea was born from my own personal experience. At the top of every week, I desperately wanted to re-center my focus on what I believed would set me up for a remarkable week ahead.

As overachievers, it’s easy to feel like the list of things we need to accomplish on any given day is longer than a CVS receipt. But the truth is, we have to keep the main thing the main thing.

How do we do that?

  1. Start with your big three: What three priorities are you focused on this week? Can you break this goal down into measurable pieces, with three main to-dos per day that you can actually accomplish by the end of the day? By doing this, you’re taking control of your week and setting yourself up for success.

  2. Examine your plate: What’s on it? What do you need to get more of, and what do you need to remove? It’s one thing to be an overachiever, but being over-committed is another. When you keep the main thing the main thing, you eliminate unnecessary activity. This can be a huge relief, lightening your load and allowing you to focus on what truly matters.
