You Have Evidence

You Have Evidence

Cancel the panic attack. The next time you are confronted with the anxiety of uncertainty about a major step that might not work out as planned, I want you to remind yourself of this truth: You are still standing!

The truth is, there's much more evidence supporting your success than suggesting that whatever you are facing will undermine your progress.

Think about it: how many times have you faced challenges and come out stronger on the other side? Each of those moments is a testament to your resilience and ability to navigate through the very terrain you’re walking through.

There's No Getting Around the Uncertainty

Every time my three-year-old daughter gets a little cold or fever, it instantly puts me on high alert as a parent. Despite our experience with her being nearly 10 weeks premature and weathering the NICU, when she’s running a fever and we’re following the doctor's orders for it to break, the anxiety still hits hard.

You'd think that having been through the NICU journey would make us seasoned pros at handling childhood illnesses. We’ve seen her overcome so much, from those early, fragile days to becoming the lively toddler she is now. But every time she gets sick, the uncertainty and worry resurface, and it feels like we’re right back to square one.

No matter how many wins we have under our belt, there's no getting around the uncertainty that comes with each new challenge. It’s a humbling reminder that parenthood is a journey filled with unpredictable moments, where each victory is cherished, but the next hurdle always looms.

You’ve Got to Keep Moving

Remember, every step forward, even the smallest ones, is progress. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the big picture, but breaking big steps down into manageable pieces can help you keep moving without getting paralyzed by fear.

When the anxiety starts to creep in, take these steps:

  1. Pause and Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to center yourself. It’s amazing how something so simple can help you regain control.

  2. Focus on Facts: Look at the hard evidence of your past successes. Remind yourself that you have a track record of overcoming challenges.

  3. Take Action: Even a small step can break the cycle of anxiety. Progress is progress, no matter the size.
