Say Goodbye to the Sunk Cost Fallacy

Here’s to a Remarkable Monday, my friend. Let’s get right to it.

Today, we explore the sunk-cost fallacy.

But first, a special thanks to our affiliate, Amazon. Check out the book I consider to be the GOAT of all personal development books.

What is the sunk-cost fallacy? Just so we’re on the same page, the sunk-cost fallacy is a thinking pattern where we feel compelled to keep investing in something—money, time, or effort—because we've already invested so much that we don't want it to feel like a total loss.

The impact of loss feels worse than the prospect of gain, so we keep making decisions based on past costs instead of future costs and benefits.

2023 was a monumental year for me. I finally gave myself the grace to embrace what my career could look like without music at the center of it. That was major for me because, up until that point, music was what I was most passionate about and afforded me the most lucrative opportunities—or so I thought.

I had to be reminded of what I was really passionate about. I love connecting audiences to transformative experiences. Whether through a song or writing this email to you today, the mission is to make that connection for people. That is when I feel most alive in the work that I do.

Now more than ever, I am fulfilled and find so much joy in work and life, simply because I leaned into the prospect of challenging a limited belief. Making this change wasn’t easy, and it sure didn’t happen overnight. But it was most certainly worth it as I reflect today.
