Miracles Preceded by Preparation
There’s a pattern in Scripture I can’t shake.
In 2 Kings 4, a widow is staring down a crisis. Debt. Loss. Pressure. The prophet doesn’t dismiss her pain—but he also doesn’t skip instruction. Go borrow the vessels, he says. Not a few. Then pour.
In John 2, Jesus’ first recorded miracle doesn’t begin with transformation. It begins with obedience. Fill the jars with water. Not halfway. Not symbolically. To the brim.
In both stories, the miracle is preceded by preparation. God didn’t require of anyone what they didn’t have. He instructs us to make room with what’s available. The oil flowed where there was capacity. The wine came where something had been filled.

A Word for the Year Ahead
As I prayed over 2026, I felt impressed to write this down—not just for myself, but for anyone who needs something to return to when the year gets loud.
I offer this not as a prediction, but as covering. And I invite you to share this with someone who needs to hear this:
This year will be marked by margin.
Gone are the days of relentless striving just to barely make it. The margin I’m speaking of isn’t excess for show—it’s provision with purpose. Like the widow in 2 Kings, may you have enough to pay what’s owed, enough to live on, and enough to live generously. Not rushed. Not anxious. Sustained.
This year will be marked by recovery.
What was lost. What was squandered. What felt wasted. Your time. Your peace. Your heart. May the same God who restored Job restore what was taken—and may it return with wisdom attached. Not just replaced, but redeemed.
This year will be marked by sobriety of speech.
You will be kinder to yourself in how you speak about yourself. Your internal dialogue will shift from accusation to alignment. And in your relationships, you will grow more aware of what you say and how it lands.
Fill the Vessels
If there’s one invitation to carry into the year ahead, it’s this:
Prepare what you have.
Fill what’s empty.
Make room.
God has never been limited by lack—only by capacity.
So fill the jars.
Borrow the vessels.
Fill them to the brim.
And trust that when your obedience meets the Lord’s timing, the miracle will know exactly where to go.
See you next Monday,
